We as a congregation are strongly committed to supporting Mission Starfish Haiti, a Christian, pre-K through ninth grade school in Gonaives, Haiti. Our church family was first introduced to MSH’s founder, Silentor Esthil-Henderson, in 2014. We quickly became convinced that we wanted to support his students, his work, MSH’s outreach in the community, and Silentor as a person.
Mission Trips: Since 2015, our church has participated in four week-long mission trips to Haiti. While there, participants have done everything from helping to pour concrete floors in homes to teaching students how to play handbells to serving a community dinner to providing desperately needed dental services. Our next mission trip to MSH is currently scheduled for March of 2020. Our teams have been made up primarily of our church members, but have always included anyone else from within or outside our community who desires to participate.
Supplies for MSH: Each time a mission team is headed to Haiti, the congregation pitches in and helps the team to fill one large suitcase per team member loaded with supplies that the school and surrounding community need—towels, school supplies, eating utensils, first aid supplies, etc.
Fundraising for MSH: Our church, individually and in cooperation with several other Fulton churches, has raised thousands of dollars annually to support special projects at MSH—money needed for capital projects, vehicles, etc. Two fundraisers have become annual staples:
- Trivia Night for MSH: Fulton’s multi-denominational MSH mission team hosts a trivia night at the Fulton Presbyterian Church annually on the Sunday evening one week prior to Super Bowl Sunday. The 2019 trivia night will be on Sunday, January 27th. Everyone is welcome to participate. Watch for more information on this year’s competition.
- Freezin’ for a Reason: This 5K race takes place in February or March each year, starting and finishing at the church. Everyone is welcome to participate—watch for more information on this year’s race
Our church, as a congregation, sponsors one of the over 400 students at MSH. In addition, many in the church also sponsor their own child.
